About Yatto

Yatto is an Arrow Certified, and ESA incubated UK startup which broke all the rules of IoT connectivity. Traditional Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) work where minimal data needs to be acquired infrequently by cloud systems for processing (think reading, but not managing, utility meters, and low value object tracking). In comparison, an intelligent city needs to optimize traffic in real-time. Power distributors need to predict energy usage and manage end-points in real time. Many emerging Industrial IoT applications require coordinated, in real time responses.

Yatto combines machine learning and ultra-efficient wide-area wireless mesh transport required for mission-critical industrial applications.

Yatto has successfully completed the business incubation program at the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre UK at the Harwell space centre. Their admission committee had selected Yatto at the competition in 2018 and Yatto was admitted for the 18 month incubation program. Yatto is the alumni No 71 of the ESA BIC UK.

Current Industrial IoT Challenges

M2M GPRS, m-Bus based solutions don’t cut it in massive IIoT: expensive, power inefficient, no redundancy etc. Yet industry (customers) are still relying on them for remote reading/control of machinery.

STAR topology LPWANs (ISM) solve only a limited set of problems where small, infrequent data needs to be collected. They impose access windows, data limits, and inability to process business logic in the edge.

Current wireless mesh protocols are limited in their routing capabilities, scalability, and performance. Present architecture of IoT systems limits big data AI applications to crunching collected sensory data in data centers. Massively distributed IoT and centralized GPU-bound Deep Learning AI cannot provide for autonomous and scalable edge applications with the current client-server architecture.

Yatto Solution

  • All nodes are accessible at all times (Always On) for applications that need frequent or immediate response.
  • You are not limited by scheduled windows for receiving/transmitting.
  • Nodes can transmit up to 15 km in rural settings.
  • It is cost efficient with minimal infrastructure investment.
  • It can dynamically use different data rates, from 0.5 kbps up to 1000 kbps (1Mbps).
  • It uses a number of methods, such as Listen-Before-Talk, to avoid interference and optimize packet delivery.

  • Yatto processing capacity is virtually unlimited unlike other WAN protocols,
  • End-nodes are outside of public Internet space and not susceptible to IP threats.
